Why the death penalty must end | -Kanimozhi

1 comment:

  1. Everyone reiterates that ‘death penalty has not been confirmed to be a deterrent by any number of studies’. No penalty ever deters any offender. Can anybody say no penalties should be imposed whatever be the offense? For example, jailing a burglar does not deter others from committing burglary. There could also be innocent persons who are jailed as burglars or arsonists! So, shall we abolish jail penalty for burglary and arson?
Civilized society is meant for protecting civilized people, not for protecting uncivilized criminals. If we find fault in the justice delivery system that innocent persons are hanged, then make whole-hearted efforts to improve it, perfect it and make it 100% safe instead of removing the system.
Jails and death penalties are systems that have to administered effectively.
Lastly, to draw an analogy, no hurt should be meted out to any living creature in a ‘civilized’ society. Does everyone become a vegetarian? Can vegetarianism be forced on all of us?
